Friday: A day at IMC in the life of the 2nd Years - aka “Mentors”

Friday the 2nd Years got to go to some really cool places. We started out at the Oklahoma City Museum Of Art, where we got to tour the new “Turner to Cézanne” exhibit and the Chihuly glass displays. Here they are photographing the the Chihuly ceiling:

This was a great place for taking photos, and the 2nd Years took a lot! The gift shop was very popular, and nearly everybody got something there, including me.

After lunch we went to the Temple B'nai Israel and got a tour of the library they have there. The librarian (and our tour guide) was Adri, who is a member of the congregation.

She volunteers her time to make the library a useful place. She put the library's catlog on Library Thing so anyone can search to see what they have. She answered all of our questions and showed us some of the interesting books and videos they have there, such as Curious George in Hebrew! Finally Sharon had to tear us away so that Kris could meet with her grandparents to go show sheep.

After we dropped her off, we had some time to kill, so we went shopping! We hung out at a local used book store and went to Braum’s for some refreshing treats!

Thursday: A day at IMC in the life of the 2nd Years - aka “Mentors”

This was the day everyone got to do job shadowing at the Downtown library. They shadowed folks from reference, circulation, acquisitions, management, and the children’s librarian. We had a nice lunch with all the staff at that library.

Tuesday: A day at IMC in the life of the 2nd Years - aka “Mentors”

Tuesday was one of the most fun days for the 2nd Year group, I think... We went to a Family Research Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They had several volunteers ready to help us. They explained how important it is to gather information about your family while you can, before any of them pass away.

Several of the group whipped out their cell phones to interrogate their parents about family names and dates of birth and death. The bad news about genealogy research was that it is easier to find information about people who have died. I am fortunate in that three of my four grandparents are still alive, but I was able to find my grandpa on the 1910 census in Arkansas. Sharon finally made us leave so we wouldn’t miss lunch at OUHSC with the rest of the campers.

With Dr. Dan the Buffalo at OUHSC
That afternoon we were given a tour of The Oklahoman. They confiscated our bags and cameras before the tour started, so no interesting photos from the tour, but we got a windy group shot out front.

Monday: A day at IMC in the life of the 2nd Years - aka “Mentors”

Monday the second years went to Oklahoma City University for a tour of an academic library. Victoria Swinney, director of the Dulaney-Browne Library took us around and showed us the compact shelving, interlibrary loan, and the Special Collections on the top floor.

After that we had a brief tour of the Oklahoma County Law Library.

We re-joined the rest of the group that afternoon, and went to the Oklahoma History Center. I love going to Sonic for a big Diet Dr. Pepper on Saturdays, so I had to take a picture of this:

Hello,
how is everyone this fine day? So you that camp ended a couple of days ago, right?
Well as I waited for my dad to pick me up I was going to make hot chocolate because my tounge had healed. Well as i set the cup of hot water on the counter it splashed. EVERYWHERE!!! As most of you know I probably shouldn't have attempted it, that would have been testing fate. Well you're right. The hot water splashed on my EYE!!! It got very close to the actual eyeball. It hurt ALOT! So I have learned my lesson. NO MORE HOT CHOCOLATE!!!!

My quote for today is

"Greetings from Mars"
